When Whitney Meyer found out she was pregnant again, she held out hope for her “miracle babies.”

The pregnancy came not two years after the tragic loss of her toddler son Pravyn, who had passed away in a drowning accident.  And this time—she would have double the joy with the revelation that she was pregnant with not one, but two babies.

She carried them safely to term, but then after the delivery, Meyer remembers shock and confusion.

The doctor picked up the twins—Kalani and Jarani—to hand to the mother, and she couldn’t believe her eyes.

“I asked the doctor why Kalani’s skin was so white!” Meyer told Us Weekly.

“When Kalani came out I thought she (had albinism) because she was all white. I asked my doctors, but they said, ‘Nope!’ And I kept thinking she would get color but she didn’t,” Meyer told People. “It’s unusual.”

It turned out that it was a rare, 1 in 500 phenomenon where each twin inherits their complexion from one parent.

So Kalani takes after her mother, while Jarani takes after her father Tomas Dean.

“No one believes they’re twins,” Meyer said. “When we go out in public, people will start looking at them because I dress them identical and I can tell they’re confused.”

When Meyer lost her son Pravyn, it brought the whole community together to honor his memory. After the twins were born, she wanted to bring the whole family again to remember him as well.

“He was smiley,” Meyer said through tears. “I went to bed with him every night, changed his diaper, squeezed his thighs, tickled his toes.” The adorable boy had touched everyone’s hearts in the community.

And now one of the twins, Jarani, looks just like Pravyn, helping his memory live on.

“J looked exactly like her brother did,” Meyer told Us Weekly. “They are identical. When I look at pictures of J, I see Pravyn.”

“My girls, they make me get up every day and they give me motivation,” she told People. “They truly are a miracle.”

The twins don’t just look different from one another, their personalities are markedly different as well.

“Kalani, we call her Lani, is our loud child, She is crawling everywhere and going nonstop,” Meyer said. “J doesn’t like to move. She just wants to be held, and she loves to eat.”

Their older brother Talan took to them immediately as well.
