It goes without saying that wearing a seatbelt is extremely important, and yet there are some, who for various reasons, don’t wear one. The same can be said about children’s car seats.
However, a mother is hoping to bring awareness to the importance of properly securing a child in a car seat after she experienced a horrible accident.
Jenna Casado Rabberman shared a photo of her sons’ car seats in front of her totaled car on Facebook, and within just a few days it was already shared over 270,000 times and received nearly 64,000 comments.
The photo acts as a sobering reminder of the importance of car seats.
Rabberman wrote on Facebook that she and her two sons, six weeks old and two and a half years old, were minutes away from home when another car slammed into them. Her Honda CR-V was totaled, yet everyone survived. The paramedics told Rabberman that if she hadn’t taken the time to make sure her children were properly buckled in their seats, it would be a much different scene.
It’s unclear what, if any injuries the mother of two sustained—she wrote on Facebook that she will be fine—but she told ABC News that her boys escaped “completely unharmed.”
It could have been a very different scene even if the car seats weren’t properly installed and buckled.
Rabberman describes herself as a “pretty relaxed parent,” but as she told ABC News, there’s one thing she’s not relaxed about, and that’s car seats. It’s one very easy way to keep children safe, and all it takes is a minute or two of your time each time you get in the car.
“I know that I would never be able to forgive myself if anything happened to my children because I didn’t take the time to do something so simple to protect them,” she said. “I don’t think any parent could live with that.”
No one could have predicted the accident, but it’s best to always be prepared.
Rabberman wrote that her now viral post was originally just for friends and family, but she hopes that now it’s been shared so many times that it will make people think twice and buckle in their children carefully.
“THIS is why you buckle your kids into their car seats correctly every SINGLE time,” she wrote. “Even when they scream because the straps are tight. Even when they complain about the chest clip or being rear facing.”
