A professor has a full length to-do list. They make lesson plans, teach their students, assign homework, and grade papers. Handling a room of students and providing knowledge they can use for the future is a great task.
One Georgia professor has added something unexpected to his to-do list. Dr. Jewrell Rivers from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College made it his duty to help out one of his students. The freshman could not find a babysitter so she brought her baby girl to her professor’s lecture.
“The baby was being so good and we were all smiling when she cooed or made cute baby noises. Then while we were doing our activity she began to get a little fussy,” another student from the class, Taylor Uliana, posted on Facebook.
The professor did not waste any time taking action when the baby became unsettled.
Yall. One of the coolest things happened in my sociology lecture today and it’s been on my heart to share it. A girl in…
“Our professor jumped up without any hesitation—he’s a very quiet, simple man—he jumped up and said, ‘May I take her on a ride?’” Uliana told PEOPLE. The student allowed the professor to take her daughter for a walk.
According to Uliana, Dr. Rivers took the baby for a walk in front of the classroom for 15 minutes.
“He walked out of the classroom with the stroller with the biggest grin on his face and was riding up and down the halls in front of our classrooms for about a combined time of 15 minutes.”
Dr. Rivers enjoyed his little class visitor.
For those 15 minutes, the professor pushed the stroller while interacting with the baby.
“He was dancing and smiling!” Uliana told PEOPLE.
Leaning forward and smiling, the professor seemed to enjoy taking the baby from his student’s hands. While the professor had some down time, Uliana, who sat next to the baby’s mom, said the class just finished their assignments.
After a little playtime, the professor returned to class happier and ready to get back to work.
“He came back with the biggest smile on his face and said, ‘We had a great time. Now let’s go over the answers,’” Uliana said.
“We just carried on class like it was absolutely normal. Right before class ended, he just looked at her and said, ‘I’m so glad we had a visitor today. Brightened my day!’”
It’s the little things that make the professor happy.
Besides the enjoyment of his student’s baby, he also thanked Uliana for his shoutout on Facebook.
“I walked into class yesterday and he looked at me and just said, ‘You!’ and pointed at me with a smile,” Uliana told PEOPLE.
“He said, ‘I really appreciate what you did. I live a very quiet life, so it’s been different.’ He just said, ‘Thank you, thank you, thank you.’”
