Everything really does happen for a reason. 16-year-old high school student Ryan Estrada found this out in the most unexpected way.
Ryan, a native of Richmond, Virginia, was on the way to high school for his first day of swim practice. While driving, he swerved trying to avoid someone riding a bike, but he ended up losing control of the car.
His car hit a mailbox, then a tree.
Fortunately, the swimmer survived the accident, and two motorists immediately came to his rescue and called 911. He was left hanging out the window of his car, waiting for emergency services to arrive.
Then, Ryan realized something horrible.
“I knew something was wrong because I couldn’t feel anything in my shoulders, and I just couldn’t feel anything,” he told WTVR. When he was taken to the hospital, his worst fear came true.
The crash had resulted in a broken vertebrae in Ryan’s neck, causing him to lose feeling in his hands and legs.
Ryan was devastated upon finding out the severity of his injuries. Doctors planned to perform surgery on him, and the student and his family were hoping for the best.
Suddenly the teen saw something that turned his attitude completely around.
