Mark Twain once said, “Heaven goes by favor. If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in.”

There are countless examples of pets of all kinds showing extraordinary selfless love and affection for their owners, and this is one of the most touching.

The cat’s owner had passed away unexpectedly.

The owner of the cat, an elderly woman named Ibu Kundari from Central Java, Indonesia, had unexpectedly passed away. The loyal cat was so heartbroken, the loss was too much to bear.

A man tried to help.

A local resident, Keli Keningau Prayitno, witnessed the poor cat as she cried and rolled on her owner’s grave for a year, stopping only to eat something.

At one point, Prayitno tried to adopt the cat, thinking it would help the heartbroken feline and comfort both of them. But the cat, after being taken away, would always find a way back to where the owner had been put to rest.

“It’s very sad to see,” Prayitno shared in an interview with DailyMail. “She has been here for almost a year. It shows just how close animals are to their owners.”

Others tried to take in the cat as well, but she always returned to the grave.

Local residents often tried to tempt the cat away with treats, but were always unsuccessful.

Prayitno saw the cat leave the gravesite one day and followed her.

A day came when Prayitno saw the cat depart from the grave. Surprised and curious, he followed her and discovered that she had returned to the house where she once lived with her owner, where the woman’s children would feed the cat.

But before long, the cat went right back to her owner’s grave, continuing to sleep on the plot in between cries and meows of grief.
