Security Camera Helps Find and Save Suicidal Woman
A quick-thinking rooftop CCTV operator helped to save a woman’s life in Illinois.
Evanston police were initially informed of a woman missing who was threatening to harm herself, reported WGN Chicago in a Feb 5 report.
Police picked up only a general location from her cell phone signal, but then a dispatcher hit on the idea of searching security camera feeds, quickly locating her on top of a parking garage 12 stories up.
The camera caught her on the ledge of the building apparently considering jumping off.
The camera footage then shows the moment the police arrive, cautiously and carefully trying to win her confidence. They spent hours on the rooftop before finally persuading the woman down and into the arms of her family, according to WGN.
See the video above for clips from the rooftop camera and to hear the officers describe what happened up on the roof.
The woman is said to be recovering and will be getting help, according to the family.
