The twists and turns of relationships can occasionally send even the most secure of folk running for the hills, but it’s not often that those moments are caught on camera. Luckily for us (and you!), we’re able to share the hilarious moment that a nervous wedding guest realized what he was in for after his girlfriend caught the bride’s bouquet.
Daniel Gilbert and his girlfriend Rachel Besley had been celebrating the wedding of their close friends Chelsea and Matt Best, who said their vows in Northampton, England. The Bests met at the University of Birmingham, and since becoming a couple in September of 2012, they had never looked back. (Not even to throw the bridal bouquet, because that would be cheating.)
The Bests traveled from their native England to Dubai, Scribol shared, where they worked together for two years before getting engaged. They said “I do” in front of friends and family amid the beautiful blue skies and rolling green hills of their home turf, giving plenty of traditions their due place in the day’s proceedings. That included, of course, the divisive tossing of the bouquet! Some love it, and some aren’t so sure, because there are some pretty serious superstitions attached to the gesture. Did you know?
According to Reader’s Digest, tossing the bridal bouquet was originally a deterrent. The bride would throw her bouquet of flowers into the expectant crowd as a way to distract people from trying to touch her or rip off pieces of her gown for good luck. Yes, some traditions are weirder than others.

So why did the just-married Mrs. Best’s bouquet cause such consternation? In the laugh-out-loud funny clip, the camera pans from Chelsea toward a group of anticipant bridesmaids and guests (all women) with their eyes on the prize. As the beautiful bouquet flies through the air, they jostle one another out of the way, but it’s Rachel who gets lucky. Or does she? Milliseconds later, Rachel, in her stunning orange gown, can be seen jumping for joy with her yellow floral trophy in the air…
While her boyfriend Daniel runs away.
A comically petrified Daniel sprints at high speed from the bouquet toward the woods with his bottle of beer still in his hand. Why, exactly, was Daniel so terrified? Well, catching the bridal blooms signifies a little more than just good luck, relationship-wise; the woman who catches the flowers (in this case, Daniel’s girlfriend, Rachel) is said to be the next in line to get married. Gulp!
As the video went viral, the Daily Mail reported that hundreds upon hundreds of people commented that their partners would likely do the same thing. What would you do? Be sure to share this article with anybody you know who needs a good laugh today! And here’s hoping that Rachel has forgiven her runaway boyfriend by now. Daniel, we’ve heard that flowers are a good way to apologize.
