How did you spend your first paycheck?
Maybe you saved it for college or spent it on yourself. Or maybe you decided to share it with someone else.
Sofi Cruz Turner is a sophomore at Conway High School in South Carolina.
According to WMBF, Sofi recently started working at a restaurant for her first job and it didn’t take long for her to figure out how she wanted to spend her initial paycheck.
The sophomore wanted to use it to help a friend she had known since the third grade.
“He has always been that one student where he does all of his work when due, never misses school, always helping the teacher out with stuff in class, and always being a happy human being,” she wrote on Facebook May 2.
She started working and decided she wanted to spend her first paycheck on a friend.
Recently Sofi overheard her friend, Jahiem, sheepishly ask if anyone could buy him a new pair of shoes.
After hearing her friend’s request, she decided to spend her first paycheck on Jahiem.
Sofi used her money, along with some from her mother and grandfather, and surprised Jahiem.
“I’ve always thought about getting him something before but never had the money or the gut to do it,” she wrote.
With a little financial help from her mother and grandfather, Sofi was able to buy Jahiem sneakers, socks, a shirt, and a backpack.
At first he didn’t know how to react, though he eventually broke down.
One day in school she surprised Jahiem.
“You are a very good friend to me and, since I got a job, I’ve been thinking about getting something special for somebody, and this is for you,” she said.
He might have been speechless, but his reaction spoke volumes.
