The only thing missing from this guys bicycle ride is some epic superhero background music! Maybe that’s what he has playing on his iPod because he sure is flying down this hill at the speed of light! He passes everyone, including a motorcycle rider who figures, if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em! If you haven’t tried this technique to build speed, I highly recommend it. Check out what happens at the end! Get that man a cape!
Of course, it is every serious bicyclist job to overcome wind resistance. Most recreational bikes, where the rider sits up high, have poor aerodynamics for obvious reasons. Well, one obvious reason – wind resistance. Professional caliber bicycles are being designed with aerodynamics in mind, but the rest is left up to the rider and what he or she does with their body to add that extra something to rid themselves of as much resistance as is possible.
The human body is not well designed to cut through moving air, so bicycle racers have, over the years, come up with a myriad of ways to help reduce wind resistance. Bicycle designers and inventors have experimented with creating many alternative bicycle designs and HPV’s (human- powered vehicles) and if you want to make the investment, you will not have a shortage of bikes with much better aerodynamic performance than others.
