Sealver Silva plays defensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The athlete was involved in the Buccaneers’ tough Christmas Eve loss to the Carolina Panthers. The Buccaneers had the lead going into the 4th quarter, and lost due to a touchdown from the Panthers in the final minute of the game.

Enduring a loss is tough enough, but one can imagine the team’s morale after losing the game that late.

But Silva didn’t want to let the game ruin his holidays. He ended up going with a few friends to an Applebee’s in Tampa Bay that night, most likely to shake off the loss. According to the staff, Silva and his friends couldn’t have been nicer in their restaurant.

The NFL player and his crew hung around until closing time, which was 10 p.m. When they were given the bill, Silva asked the manager how many people were working in the restaurant at the time. And it was 10, including the dishwasher.

When the bill was seen, the manager couldn’t believe it.

Silva had tipped the bill $1,000 — $100 for each member of the staff.

The staff initially thought it was a joke, but they realized how legitimate it was once they were handed out $100 dollar bills at the end of the night!

The gesture was Silva showing his Christmas spirit. He wanted to show his appreciation for the staff, who were working until 10 p.m. on Christmas Eve, sacrificing that time they could’ve spent with their families.

It had been a slow night at this location, so this huge tip came in handy for those right before Christmas.

“As a server, I get paid every night, so I may make enough, I may not,” said server Ryan Preston.  “That hundred really went a far way.”

Given many people depend on their their tips to pay their bills and provide for their family, this gesture could’ve possibly made these workers’ entire Christmas.

Restaurant courtesy goes a long way, on both sides. A simple nice dining experience can turn anyone’s day around. Though Silva endured a tough loss earlier that day, he was still able to a considerate customer, and acknowledge the hard work by the Applebee’s staff by making their lives a bit easier with his generosity.
