Body Cam Shows Moment Police Stun Man as He Runs Away
Authorities have released footage showing the moment a suspect was brought down with a stun gun by a police officer.
The recently released body cam footage starts with Stephen Baldwin, 41, being asked to get out of his car on the afternoon of Nov. 28. As officers go to cuff him, however, he runs away.
Officer Marissa Garbacz gives chase, catches up with him, and eventually stuns Baldwin after repeated warnings as he tries to escape.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Baldwin is currently on trial on felony charges of forgery, identity theft, and possession of a fraudulent identification card.
After being stunned, he was taken to an area hospital to be treated for bleeding on the brain.
One month before the incident, Chicago police had changed its rules to discourage officers from using tasers to stop suspects as they run away or who are vulnerable to injury, reported the Chicago Times.
The footage was released by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, which is currently investigating the incident.
