Being a janitor can be a thankless job. You could work at a company for years, and the higher-status employees might never learn your name, or ignore you completely.
But the staff at a bank in West Howard, Texas, all know and love their janitor, Floyd Green, who’s been with the company for 30 years.
“He is a sweet man and is the reason we look forward to Tuesdays and Fridays!” an employee wrote on social media.
Recently, the staff stepped up to thank Mr. Green for his service in an incredibly kind way.
On November 17th, shortly after Green’s birthday, the team called him into the conference room. There was a large gift box on the table.
They told Green to open it.
Green opened the lid—and was stunned by what he found. There was a living thing inside that box:
Green was amused, and held the adorable yorkshire terrier in his hands. He asked the staff surrounding him whose dog he was.
”It’s a she,” a colleague responds. Then she revealed the real surprise:
The staff wishes Green a belated happy birthday. It was a birthday present—but one with a special significance.
Recently, Green suffered an upsetting personal loss: His own beloved Yorkshire terrier had passed away, of natural causes from old age.
When the staff heard about this, they felt for the old janitor, and decided to chip in to buy him a new companion.
“We love you,” an employee tells him.
“Thank you!” Green responds with sincere gratitude.
“I love you all, too!”
Green reportedly named the dog Precious. The dog won’t be just a faithful companion for him, but a reminder of the love of his co-workers!
