Simon Richards and Guy Munckton of Queensland, Australia were out whale watching one day when a whale-calf breached, one meter away from them.
This surprise could have spelled disaster for the adventurers. The boat could have tipped over yet, they were safe and captured some awesome footage to boot.
“The breach was totally unexpected as the mother and calf were more than 50m away when we first saw them tail slapping,” Richards said.
“The whales were swimming by us and we thought that they were going to pop up again in the distance but to our surprise, the calf had swum over to the boat. We had no thoughts as it was a total shock. We wouldn’t have been there if we knew that was going to happen.”
