When you receive good news who is the person you can’t wait to tell? Your best friend? A parent? Your significant other?
For Bianca Rollo of Ontario, Canada, that person was her grandfather, Harry Rollo Sr. or “Papa,” now 85.
“I was very excited to share the news that my husband and I were expecting with him because I knew how happy he would be that he would get to ‘re-live’ our relationship with his future grandchild,” she told Love What Matters.
Bianca is her grandfather’s first grandchild and she said that her relationship with him is different than his relationship with her siblings.
As a child, the two of them were always going on an adventure together, whether it be fishing, going to garage sales, or enjoying an ice cream cone.
“We had a lot in common and always had a lot of fun together,” she said.
So, when it came time to let her family know in the summer of 2017 that she and her husband, Ryan Rawn, were expecting their first child, she couldn’t wait to break the news.
Bianca knew her grandfather would be happy about the news, especially because ever since her grandmother, Baba, died in 2008, it had felt like “something has been missing in our family.”
“I had the idea right away to make my Papa a t-shirt as I know how he loves his shirts and it would be something he would be so happy to wear,” Bianca told ABC News.
In the video that has been viewed more than 1.2 million times, Papa opens a present and reveals a t-shirt, which at first he has a rather modest reaction to.
But after he takes a moment to read the front of the shirt more carefully he drops it into his lap and looks around in disbelief.
“Really?” he says as he buries his faces in his hands.
The front of the t-shirt read, “Great Grandpa To be….December 2017.”
“I knew he would be excited and emotional, but I honestly didn’t know what his exact reaction would be,” Bianca said. “I am so thrilled at how overjoyed he is about the news!”
Although at the time the couple didn’t know the sex of their baby, as they planned to reveal the sex of their baby several weeks later, Papa often called the newest member of the family a “she.”
It turned out that Papa was right.
On December 8, 2017, Bianca gave birth to a baby girl, Juliette Michelle Rawn.
