In 2016, then-26-year-old Kendall was overweight, unemployed, and down in the dumps. He was living at home, caring for his mother, who had suffered a traumatic brain injury the year before. Kendall’s mom was released from her rehabilitation center into her overwhelmed son’s care after their insurance coverage ran out, and Kendall despaired.

“She didn’t recognize me the first day she was back,” Kendall explained, sharing his personal story with Love What Matters. “To see her stare without the longing of a mother was heart wrenching.”

Everything changed when a heartbroken friend, mourning the loss of his girlfriend, invited Kendall to accompany him to the gym. It started out as moral support but soon turned into something much bigger.

Kendall took the initiative to do more on his own and found solace in the online workout and yoga community. He embraced yoga’s gentle philosophy of meditation, patience, and self-love, alongside a hardcore fitness-focused lifestyle. Kendall also revamped his diet and gave up drinking too much alcohol.

“I was an overweight youth,” Kendall explained. “I was bullied growing up. I’ve lived my life with body-image and confidence issues. Throughout my life,” he continued, “I’ve gained and lost weight, but this time was different.”

It certainly was.

When the young caregiver clocked a whopping 70 pounds in weight loss, he shared his “before and after” photos online. People were shocked. “The ‘progress picture’ I posted exploded!” Kendall commented. “I could barely sleep that night, it was amazing. The comments were all so uplifting and inspiring.”

While many people complimented Kendall on his awesome weight loss, chiseled jaw, and luscious hair, others couldn’t help but liken one of Kendall’s “after” photos on Instagram to the sultry Disney hero Prince Adam, better known as the beast from Beauty and the Beast.

Kendall, having spent so many years feeling invisible, said it was “the most lovely compliment I could ever hear” and took the kind words to heart, says the Independent. Kendall’s transformation was quietly inspiring multiple generations of social media users to believe that change can happen.

And just like Prince Adam in the beloved Disney movie, real change goes deeper than the surface. Two years after his journey began, Kendall had gained more self-confidence and inner peace than he ever thought possible.

As for Kendall’s mother, “As I began losing the weight, she soon started to recognize me more and more,” the loving son opened up. “I’m so appreciative to once again see that sparkle in her eyes.”

“Remember to always love yourself.”
