"I just wanted to get healthy"

With the new year approaching, countless people will no doubt come up with a New Year’s resolution to make any major changes to their lives that they’ve been waiting to do. A common one is to start exercising, but most people give up on this sooner than later. It’s pretty difficult to make a new habit stick, but if you’re determined enough, you’ll make it happen.

On January 1, 2016, Lexi and Danny Reed, a couple from Indiana, made their resolution and stuck to it.

At the beginning of 2016, Danny was 280 pounds, and Lexi was almost 500 pounds.

#throwbackthursday to when @dannyreed5 asked me to be his wife on Clearwater Beach at sunset. I had no idea it was coming and cried like a baby. He loved me enough at my heaviest to spend the rest of his life by my side despite my size. He never asked me to change or made me feel like I wasnt worthy to feel beautiful and loved. I'm forever grateful to be his wife and to have had him by my side for the last 10 years. Together we are unstoppable. Together we have come so far and through our weight loss journey have became stronger than ever before. We all deserve love no matter what size. Never let anyone make you feel like you're not enough because someone out there is waiting to show you that you are. ❤ #love #proposal #wedding #engagement #weightlosstransformation #weightloss #plussize #effyourbeautystandards #fattofit #obesetobeast #progress #extremeweightloss #couplegoals #fitcouple #swolemate #gym #workout #exercise #diet #health #instafit #fitness #fit #fitfam #fitnessmotivation

At the start of the new year, the couple made it their mission to lose as much weight as possible. They were going to start going to the gym, eating healthy, and stop being lazy, so that they could just have a better life with each other.

“We were just fed up with all the things we weren’t able to do as a couple, like go on romantic walks at night and go to the movies and not be uncomfortable in the seat,” Lexi told Inside Edition.

The couple had been dating for almost 10 years, yet had never experienced any of these things due to their weight. She also claims to have been kicked off roller coasters because of her large size.

#motivationmonday -392lbs 👇 combined since 1/1/16 with @dannyreed5! This journey started as a New Years Resolution like many other Americans to lose weight, but became so much more. We stepped in this same gym not knowing where the journey would take us, but determined to not stay in the same place. We had set the same resolution many times before, but we knew if we wanted to live a long life together we HAD to change. This journey was fueled by the feeling of being FEDUP with the life we were living & FEDUP with being prisoners in our own body. This journey was fueled by the hope to be parents one day and the mantra of "baby Reed 2016" carried us on during the days when our motivation was low, muscles weak, & we didn't know if we could continue. This may have started as a Resolution but through diet, exercise, & a lifestyle change – it became one of the greatests decisions we'd ever make and one of the most epic battles we'd ever face. Don't wait to the New Year to change your life. Lexi and Danny also wanted to have a child, and knew that it would’ve been much more difficult to have one if Lexi stayed at her original weight.

Overall, their weight was getting in the way of their happiness, so they determined to stop letting it.

Lexi started an Instagram page, rightly titled “fatgirlfedup,” where she chronicles all the progress that her and Danny have made. Little by little, they both kept losing weight, and once they started, they didn’t stop.

#motivationmonday -303lbs in 18 months. Today someone asked me what I told myself the night before I started my weight loss journey on 1-1-16 & stepped into the gym. Here was my response – "Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of your life. Are you going to just keep talking about losing the weight or are you just going to do it? No more excuses. No more fear. You dont have to live this way for the rest of your life Lexi. You are in charge of your future so go in that gym and show every single person that stares or doubts you what youre made of. Prove them wrong & lets do this once and for all." I was fedup and ready to change for ME and nobody could hold me back. Not then, not now. In the two years since they made their resolution, Danny has lost over 90 pounds, while Lexi has lost over 300 pounds.

#facetofacefriday -392lbs 👇 since @discoveringdanny & I set a New Years Resolution 1/1/16. This picture from the night before we started our journey speaks to me. We had no idea exactly how we were going to lose the weight or if we would make it – but we were determined to try. We knew that together anything was possible. We weighed a combined total of 765lbs and we fedup with the life we were living. Together we started meal prepping, drinking water instead of soda, quit watching television and started moving more, going to the gym just 30 minutes five times a week, focusing on our future every day, setting goals – and day by day the weight took care of its self. Dont wait for New Years like we did – START TODAY! #weightloss #weightlossjourney #fit #fattofit #obesetobeast #beastmode #fitspo #diet #swolemate #resolution #couplegoals #relationshipgoals #beforeandafter #extremeweightloss #weightlosstransformation #gym #fitcouple #faceprogress #transformation #fitfam #health #diet #losingweight #gymlife #goals #transform

They did it all by themselves, with no help from personal trainers, and no surgery. But they couldn’t have done it without each other. The couple would constantly motivate each other in the journey, and they would also think of the baby they eventually wanted to have, and knew that it wouldn’t be possible had they not kept going.

Her Instagram account now has over 500,000 followers, and she continues to post progression photos, along with tips on what to eat and what exercises to do.

“If I could help one person, that’s what I wanted to do,” Lexi said. She not only wants to keep track of her amazing progression, but also help motivate others who were overweight like she was. She wants them to know that it’s never too late to change your diet and be able to improve your lifestyle.

#swolematesunday -392lbs 👇 combined since 1/1/16! The girl on the left had no idea that in just a few hours she would be proposed too. She struggled to walk onto the beach to see the sunset where @dannyreed5 told her how much he loved her & asked her to be his wife. He didnt care that she weighed 485lbs. He didnt care that people didnt understand why he chose her. He didnt care that she wasnt a fitness model and was plus size. He loved her no matter what shape, size, or flaws & never asked her to change. He supported her goals & dreams & loved her for who she was – no matter what size. He saw who she could be before she even saw the greatness within herself. To be his wife is a gift and i'm lucky to have someone who pushes me daily. Together we are unstoppable and well never go back to the life we lived before. We may have lost 392lbs, but we gained a life. We all deserve someone who loves us for our heart – not our size. We are all beautiful despite a number on the scale & no one should make us feel any less. Surround yourself with those who lift you higher & see the greatness in you even when you dont see it yourself! #love #couples #couplegoals #relationshipgoals #swolemates #weightloss #weightlossjourney #fitnessjourney #dietbet #indiana #ellenshow #fatgirlfedupsdietbet #motivation #gym #extremeweightloss #fitspo #fitfam #muscles #lift #gymlife #fattofit #obesetobeast #transform #weightlosstransformation #plussize #effyourbeautystandards #fitcouple

The transformation for the couple is incredible to see. Like Lexi said, this shows that you can never be too far gone to change your life. Now, Danny and Lexi can live their lives the way they’ve always wanted to, as a happy and healthy couple.
