A woman from Shandong Province, China, was a sincere “Pure Land” Buddhist for the first eight decades of her life.

Despite her beliefs, she had a short temper and easily fought with or cursed at other people who offended her. By the time she reached her later years, people considered her bossy and stubborn and often avoided her.

In 1995, she turned 85 years old. She had all kinds of health problems, including emphysema, heart disease, and gout. Eventually, she became unable to eat or drink anything for 11 days straight.

Her family sent her to see local doctors, who were not able to find a vein to insert an IV for nutrition and medication. After she was taken to a larger hospital, the doctors there could not help either.

“My children had everything ready for my funeral. Everyone knew that it was just a matter of time,” she told Minghui.org.

Around that same time, her 59-year-old son injured his neck. He couldn’t turn his head or move his arms, and none of the doctors’ treatment methods were helping.

Meanwhile, his daughter had just started practicing the spiritual meditation practice Falun Gong, or Falun Dafa, and she suggested that he try it out.

The practice teaches people to align with the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance, and it includes five slow meditative exercises.

However, when the devoutly Buddhist grandmother heard about this, she became very upset that her son would learn Falun Gong.

“I yelled at them, trying to stop them,” she said.

However, her granddaughter was very calm.

“Grandma, I’m not saying my father has to practice Falun Gong. How about I play the Falun Gong video for both of you? Just give it a try,” she said.

The grandmother eventually agreed.

The woman was lying in bed when her granddaughter turned on the first video. A few minutes later, the old woman was shaken to the core.

“Who was giving this lecture?” she thought. “Well said! What profound teaching! In all my 85 years, I had never heard anything as good.”

Suddenly, she remembered the words of a Buddhist monk from many years ago. He had told her that in the future, a spiritual master would come to the world. His surname would be “Li,” and he would teach the true cultivation way to the world.

She asked her granddaughter what the teacher’s name was from the video. When she told her it was “Li,” she sat bolt upright and forgot that she had been on her deathbed.

“This is truly the great orthodox cultivation way!” she shouted, surprising everyone in the room.

The woman sat in front of the television for the entire afternoon listening to Teacher Li speak. For some reason, she didn’t feel tired, but was relaxed and energized.

That night and the next morning she vomited numerous times. Then, she felt normal again.

“After that, all of my health problems were gone. In just one night! I could not help crying,” she said.

Her son’s neck also healed.

She knew that as a stubborn person, she would never have never believed in such a miracle if it didn’t happen to her.

For the next 20 years, the woman was healthy and didn’t need to take any medicine. Her gray hair also turned back to its original black color.

She hosted a free workshop in her home to help other people learn about Falun Gong. More than 40 friends and relatives watched the videos and learned the exercises together. They also started a local exercise site where they could practice together every day.

Many of these people also received health benefits. The woman’s 50-year-old neighbor had breast cancer, but didn’t have any money for treatment. After she learned Falun Gong, her tumor disappeared.

One of the woman’s granddaughters had married a man who cheated on her and beat her. She gave up on life and tried to commit suicide several times. She agreed to practice Falun Gong, and she soon regained her confidence.

The elderly woman herself improved her temper and tried to be compassionate and see other people in a positive light. People in her village started to respect her, and they often came to visit her on Chinese New Year. Her entire family began to get along very well.

“I also try to consider others. I try to do everything by myself and not bother my children,” she said. “I can climb the four floors to my apartment without any help. My children say that I am getting younger and younger.”

In 2015, the woman turned 104 years old, and she said she was extremely grateful to her Teacher Li Hongzhi for extending her life and allowing her to practice such a positive spiritual cultivation discipline.

“I can never repay him for what he has done for me.”
