Meghan Trainor Buys Non-Smart Phone to Cut Social Media Usage
Pop singer Meghan Trainor recently revealed that she bought a BlackBerry, in order to cut down the time she spends on social media.
In an interview with Today, Trainor said she found herself spending the first two hours every morning scrolling mindlessly through Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, until getting up and washing her face at the last minute before her makeup team showed up.
Trainor realized that the social media posts from other people easily made her want to compare herself with others, and it was also wasting her time.
After making up her mind to change her morning routine, as well as to make sure there was no way to reach any social networking platforms on her phone, she decided to buy a BlackBerry. On this phone, she can only text, make calls and write emails.
“I think it’s cool. I used to have one, I love them, and I just wanted a nice, forced break of like, where you can’t scroll all day long,” she said.
Meghan Trainor isn’t the only one trying to break free from smart phone addiction. Modeling and reality TV star Kendall Jenner recently revealed she’s also attempting to limit her mobile use.
And to maintain his healthy mental wellbeing, music producer Simon Cowell ditched his smart phone last summer.
According to BBC News, social media use has consumed people’s lives in recent years. The changes it has brought are tremendous, and so are the hazards. People can be victims of trolling, going viral for the wrong reasons, dangerous online dares, and misguided comments that could possibly destroy their lives.
For teenage users, USA Today reported that the overuse of social media can result in anxiety, body image issues, and other problems, according to child psychologists and therapists. The Royal Society for Public Health in the United Kingdom conducted a survey of 1,500 young people and found that young girls tend to judge themselves by perfectly photoshopped images.
