Sometimes, when you’re feeling lucky, you want to see how far your luck can go.
Michelle Shuffler was feeling this way one recent Sunday with her husband. The couple saw they had some extra cash, so, they decided to test their luck and buy a scratch-off, even though Shuffler claims that they never usually play the lottery.
They went to the town of Lenoir to a gas station to try their luck on a scratch-off.
Sure enough, it was their lucky day.
The couple won $10,000!
Shuffler and her husband couldn’t believe that the one time they decided to play, they had won big. But instead of going straight to redeem their winnings, Shuffler had a different idea.
She didn’t want to stop there.
“We saw that a game had a million dollar prize, so we decided, ‘Why not try to beat the odds again?'” Shuffler told the N.C. Education Lottery.
She figured that they really didn’t have anything to lose considering all the money they had just won. So later that evening, the couple drove to a gas station in Granite Falls, which is about 22 miles from the gas station in Lenoir where they had originally won.
There, in Granite Falls, they struck gold again.
The couple bought a Million Dollar Fever ticket and won once again, but this time the reward was $1 million!

If they were surprised the first time, one can only imagine how shocked they were the second time. They had accomplished something twice in one day that most people can’t do in a lifetime. Shuffler called it a miracle herself.
The couple are going to split their payments into 20 annual payments of $50,000. And Shuffler plans on using the money to pay for retirement and her children’s college tuitions. It’s good to see that she’s keeping her feet on the ground.
