Mom Films Son Singing to His New Baby Sister, and Her Reaction Is Beyond Adorable

Introducing a new baby to their older sibling is a delicate operation. If the older brother or sister doesn’t take well to the family’s newest and tiniest member, then it could spell trouble for years to come.

But if, on the other hand, they bond … well, it could make for some truly heartwarming moments. And home videos.

That’s what happened when this mom left her young son to hold his new baby sister. Immediately smitten, the little lad held the baby girl lovingly in his arms; he gazed down at her, and she gazed back up at him in awe.

The conscientious parents had placed the new baby carefully on her brother’s lap and observed the sweet scene. But then the little boy did something that prompted his mom to grab her phone and start recording. He started serenading his little sister with a sweet, familiar song.

Not only did the big brother keep his arms wrapped around his smiling sister, but he sang her a song that was perfectly suited to the moment. Mom, with camera in hand, recorded the entire serenade.

In the clip, which has been shared on Facebook, the little boy sings the lyrics to Joe Cocker’s “You Are So Beautiful,” and by the look on his face, every single word comes from the heart.

“You are so beautiful to me,” begin the lyrics. “Can’t you see / You’re everything I hoped for / You’re everything I need / You are so beautiful to me.”

The song was originally penned by Billy Preston and Bruce Fisher and released on Preston’s ninth studio album in 1974. However, it’s Joe Cocker’s slower version from the very same year that became a hit single in the United States.

Singing the line “You’re everything I hoped for,” the little boy in this moving video lets his sister know that she is wanted and loved. The baby girl’s eyes sparkle in response, almost as if she understood the meaning of her big brother’s words already.

UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center has found that singing, even more so than talking, helps to keep babies calm. It can also “lead to stronger social bonds,” they say, “improved health, and even greater language fluency.” This little boy’s innocent serenade could unwittingly mean so much more to his baby sister than he ever knew.

At the end of the clip, there’s even a tiny surprise in store from the singing brother’s baby sister.

“She smiled!” the little boy exclaims, delighted. “She did smile!” Mom confirms, adding, “Can you give her a big old kiss?” The besotted brother obliges, and his baby sister gurgles her approval.

“What a precious little brother,” commented one viewer, “so sweet and caring! And the baby seem to know the love she’s getting; her smile says it all.”

“Absolutely adorable,” added another viewer. “She has a protector for life.”

The sweet video was later shared on YouTube, where it has over 1 million views and counting. It’s a precious moment, caught on camera, that this family will treasure forever.
