Elderly Minnesota Couple Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash, Suspect in Custody
An elderly married couple went out for a walk at night and were killed in a hit-and-run collision in Eagan, Minnesota on Thursday.
The police responded to a call on Thursday night and found the 57-year-old wife and 74-year-old husband lying in the parking lot. They were pronounced dead after they were transported to the Regions Hospital in St. Paul. The police have not released their identities, Star Tribune reports.
The authorities believe that the married couple and the 36-year-old suspect did not know each other, and that the suspect was not under the influence of alcohol.
Witnesses described the details of the crime to the police, then the police tracked the vehicle down around an hour later at the La Fonda restaurant located about a mile away from the crime scene.
Many hours later, they located the suspect at an inn six miles away from the crime scene. He was arrested on Friday morning, held in Dakota County Jail and is now awaiting his charges.
The authorities believe the suspect was living in Minnesota at the time and has been convicted several times for felony assault and theft of a motor vehicle.
The Eagan Police and State Patrol are in charge of this investigation.
