Woman finds date for wedding on Twitter, but that’s not the most surprising part

When Lila Apostolou needed a plus one for an upcoming wedding she was attending, she turned to Twitter to help her out — because what better place to find a wedding date than the Internet!

On July 6, 2014, Apostolou reached out to her followers and asked two simple questions.

For many Twitter users, asking such a question might be equivalent to screaming into a void, but not for Apostolou. She received a handful of replies, but only one seemed prepared to act as her plus one for what turns out was her sister’s wedding.

A man by the name of Phil Gibson quickly responded that he already had a suit, and as far as Apostolou was concerned that was enough for her.

She jokingly replied, “see you at the altar,” which appeared to throw Gibson off, but then he joined in on the fun when he realized she was just playing around—or so everyone thought.

Fast forward three years to July 3, 2017, and Apostolou and Gibson finally attended a wedding together, this time their own.

For reasons unknown, Apostolou and Gibson never attended her sister’s wedding, but the two, who previously didn’t know each other, did meet in real life the same week that Apostolou sent out the request. She tweeted that while she jokingly wanted to marry Gibson, she didn’t think it would actually happen.

After all, isn’t this the kind of thing that only happens in the movies?

Imagine that.
