Certain $1 bills are worth a lot more than that.
There are bills in circulation that might be worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
It all lies in the serial number on the bill. CoolSerialNumbers.com created a list of the most-wanted bills. There’s more than 90 different combinations of numbers listed.
“The prices on my web site are representative of the current market,” Dave Undis, the website’s owner, told Philly.com.
Even higher asking prices can be found on eBay. For example: a $9,999 for a 1928 $50 bill has the serial number 00009999.
Undis added that other than eBay, “currency auction houses are also good, especially for the more valuable notes. My favorites are Heritage Auctions and Lyn Knight Auctions.”
According to Don’t Waste Your Money, some criteria follows:
Seven repeating numbers in a row
Seven numbers of the same kind (in no particular order)
Numbers that super repeat (i.e., 898989898)
Double Quads, which is four repeating numbers followed by another set of four repeating numbers
Trailing zeros, which are any serial numbers that end in 00
