An Ohio man was walking down the street one day when he saw something that just didn’t seem right. A middle-aged man walked by, forcefully dragging a young girl behind him. She gave him a look back and mouthed something that made his blood run cold.
“I noticed that a man was walking down the street toting a girl behind her pulling her by the wrist,” Nazier Elahee, from Golf Manner, Ohio, told KXIX.
At first, Elahee thought the two might be related and having some sort of family conflict, but his instincts told him otherwise, and he looked the girl in the eyes to see if everything was alright. He resolved that he would intervene if something wasn’t.
What he saw in the girl’s face gave him chills: looking at him, wide-eyed, she mouthed the words, “Help me.”
She then repeated her words, and that’s when he decided it was time to step in and confront the man.
Elahee approached the girl and asked her if she knew the middle-aged fellow, and she replied that she didn’t. He then asked the man if he knew her, and he replied, “No, I’m taking her home,” Elahee recounted.
He then decided to call the police, and the man, later identified as 37-year-old Jesse Woodard Jr., took off and started running. Elahee gave chase not willing to let the creep get off scot-free. Police then caught up with both men at a local Food Mart, where Woodard was apprehended.
Woodard was charged with kidnapping. It turned out he was taking her in the opposite direction from where she actually lived. Much of the incident unfolded in front of a police station and was caught on police surveillance video.
Afterward, the good Samaritan, indeed hero, who decided to trust his instincts and had the courage to get involved, shared his concerns:
“If he had gotten that little girl to wherever he was going to, she could have been raped—killed,” he said. “If I could have done something else, I would have, but the right thing to do was to call the police and keep the girl safe.”
