The internet loves dogs and babies, so it stands to show that we love seeing dogs and babies together even more. Dogs taking care of babies returns close to 9 million search results on Google.
Here’s one persistent little puppy making an effort to cover a baby with a blanket as he takes a nap.
Many well adjusted dogs will be careful of babies and toddlers and even look out for them. A dog may nudge a baby sleeping in an unsafe position, or pull down the covers if the baby is overheated, or nose at or lick the baby to check its temperature. Many dogs are also incredibly patient with small children even as they pull at them to play.
Not all dogs will do this; it partly depends on the breed and partly on training.
If your family already has a friendly dog though, a new Canadian study suggests there are benefits to exposing babies to puppies and other furry pets.
The study found that having dogs and cats at home during pregnancy and infancy resulted in babies with higher levels of some gut microbes, resulting in lower chances of allergies and obesity.
