Yes, kangaroos really do box. The boxing kangaroo is actually the national symbol of Australia, seen all over at sporting events and on television.

According to BBC Life Story, the kangaroo’s biggest threat is other kangaroos. Male kangaroos will fight for territory, mates, and self defense. Training begins at a very young age—male kangaroos will play fight with their parents, and then find other sparring partners their own age and size.
Because the animals have good balance and very developed upper body muscles, they will punch at other kangaroos, reminiscent of boxing. They’ll also lock arms and grapple with each other while balancing with their tails, like in the video above.
Kangaroos also have strong legs (they can leap 25 feet!) and will use their arms to hold onto their opponent for leverage to kick each other.
