A Florida teen who got a football scholarship in California was shot and killed after he attempted to make a transaction on Craigslist, it was reported.

The shooting was reported at around 3 p.m. local time on Wednesday in North Miami Beach, Local10 News reported.

Brian Brown, 19, who graduated last week from North Miami Beach Senior High School, was shot three times in the back, officials said, adding they believed the incident occurred during a Craigslist transaction. Brown advertised video games on the website to sell.

Brown apparently went to meet with the person to sell him games and a console, family members said. His father was distraught, saying Brown was a good person.

“Happy, always smiling, a friend to everyone. Everyone who knew him — I can say at least 200 to 300 people have come here to hug me and told me what a great kid he was. and how much love he just had for everyone,” Gary Brown told Local10.

“(He) wouldn’t hurt a fly, wouldn’t hurt anyone. (He) loved animals. He had this dog, you’d think this dog was one of his kids, man.”

He died in medical care after he was driven to the hospital, the report said.

The teen was getting ready to play for the University of California, Merced. “He was getting ready for it, staying in shape, and everyone, his team mates, friends, everyone was talking about it. He was ready to go,” Gary Brown said.

Miami-Dade police are investigating the incident.
