A bond between a father and his daughter is an important one, even when they aren’t blood related.

Philadelphia man Gus Roman has been there for his 13-year-old stepdaughter, Alexa Figueroa, for as long as she could remember.

Roman has been caring for Alexa ever since she was a baby.

According to Inside Edition, the girl’s biological father passed away shortly after she was born, and Roman happened to be dating her mother at the time.

And since that time, Roman did his best to raise Alexa.

After Roman married the girl’s mother, the family was hesitant to take Roman’s surname, given the family’s last name was taken from the biological father.

But with that being said, Roman got the surprise of a lifetime on Father’s Day 2018.

In the video, we see the family celebrating the holiday, with Roman getting a bunch of gifts from the family.

After receiving many presents, Alexa comes in to give Roman a special kind of gift: a scrapbook.

We see Roman getting emotional as he flips through the book, which is full of pictures of he and his stepdaughter.

At the same time, Alexa looks excited to see him read it.

Roman gets to the end, and the final page has a message for him.

It’s a picture of Alexa holding up a sign, which says, “Hey Dad! 10 years seems long enough don’t ya think?! Wanna adopt me?”

At this point, there was no way Roman could hold back his tears.

There are smiles on each of their faces as the girl goes to give her soon-to-be adoptive father a hug.

After so many years of being raised by him, Figueroa was ready to take Roman’s last name.

It was an emotional Father’s Day for Roman, but one that showed him exactly how much he meant to his family.
