TAICHUNG, Taiwan—Central Taiwan Arts Association chairman Ni Chaolong says that Shen Yun Performing Arts is a perfect observation study for humanities teachers after watching the International Company at the Jhungshan Auditorium, in Taichung, on March 12, 2014.

“It is a feast for the eyes and ears,” said Mr. Ni.

“The vocal and dance performances were superb; the stage design was beautiful and creative. The music was also flawless.”

An integral part of the performances is the Shen Yun Orchestra, which has been highly praised by audience members world-wide.

“Though there were many contrasting colors in the costumes. I have watched many shows before, yet I am especially amazed by Shen Yun,” said Mr. Ni.

Established in 2006, New York-based Shen Yun revives 5,000 years of Chinese civilization through the performing arts.

Mr. Ni, who has promoted fine arts education for over fifty years, remarks that Shen Yun is not only beautiful but capable of purifying the soul. “The program serves an educational role; in addition, the pieces Sweeping out the Tyrant and The Monkey King Thwarts the Evil Toad are very familiar to me. The current persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China is also portrayed through intricate choreography.”

As an experienced arts educator, Mr. Ni proposes that a “Shen Yun Appreciation” course be offered in various schools. “In my lifetime, I have dedicated a lot of effort to dance, music, and fine arts,” he said.

He added, “There are very few classes on arts and humanities these days. If students have the chance to appreciate Shen Yun, it will affect them positively.”

‘Every program is a wonder’

Hsiao Wen-Long, President of Forwell Precision Machinery, watched Shen Yun’s performance on March 15 at Chung Shan Hall. Mr. Hsiao was overwhelmed after the show and said that he “adored Shen Yun!”

This is Mr. Hsiao’s second time attending Shen Yun, “I am very touched after seeing the Chinese dancing art done by Shen Yun. Neither the costumes nor the dancing movements can be done and achieved in a short time. The artists’ basic movements are solid and precise. The entire evening is planned in such exquisite way that every program is a wonder. Bravo!”

Another hallmark of the company’s productions is the vocal soloists’ use of bel canto operatic technique to sing Chinese lyrics.

He shared, “The lyrics in the songs sung by the sopranos and tenors mean very well. I think Shen Yun is conveying a very good message the teaching people how to be good. I am moved by every word and my heart surges as a result.”
