“The use of color, the emphasis on music, and the coordination of movements, each is a tiny tile in a vast mosaic. Together, they allow us to experience spiritual enlightenment. At certain moments in the theater, one can truly sense the presence of the Divine—that is precisely the feeling Shen Yun brings,” Sergio Rastrelli, an Italian Senator for the Campania Region, said after experiencing Shen Yun.
“It must spark moments of reflection. Behind every story, behind every single scene, there are meanings that we must continue to meditate on in order to fully appreciate them,” he added.
Domenico Rinaldi, a musician and oboe player, said, “We were truly amazed and deeply moved, especially by the coordination, the harmony between dance and music, they were truly in perfect sync. That’s what made it so thrilling.”
Carmela Persico, a violinist and musician, said, “We know how difficult it is to be in sync with one another, to maintain a consistent rhythm, to breathe in perfect unison, and that is precisely what impresses us most, whether viewed from the perspective of the orchestra or the dancers. And how they use those costumes to create the choreography is truly spectacular and beautiful.”
Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of traditional culture from “China before communism.” Shen Yun currently cannot perform in China due to the regime’s brutal persecution of faith.
Senator Rastrelli said, “I have become a devoted follower of this performance. It is a sumptuous, superb, and moving show, and it’s an extraordinary tribute to China’s millennia-old culture before communism. And without communism, represents a cultural and spiritual heritage that must not be lost.”
“We must accompany this path of growth in Italy as well,” the senator added. “We must ensure that Shen Yun can be hosted in all the major theaters in Italy. We must prevent the communist regime from imposing a ban in Italy as well, because this yearning for freedom cannot be stifled.”
Gualtiero Lamagna, a musician, said, “Unfortunately, it is clear that today, in China and in many other parts of the world, as has always been the case throughout history, it is difficult to express oneself freely. It is important that there is always someone in the world who is committed to maintaining tradition and someone else who is able to embrace and nurture this passion, obviously, in maintaining certain traditions in order to always bring great cultural value to the whole world.”
Ms. Rinaldi said, “It was an incredible display of expressiveness, shifting from long, emotionally charged, infectious melodies to masterful technical virtuosity on the notes. The coordination and transition between hands, switching so quickly between different states, simply marvelous. And then, there was that elegance. I also noticed her costume design, with the chair barely visible. She seemed to merge seamlessly with her instrument and her dress. To me, none of this felt accidental, it was a meticulously crafted detail, revealing a clear dedication to the craft.”
Mr. Persico said, “Their dedication and self-discipline are also truly admirable, not only in the precision and harmony of their dancing, but also in the composure and steadiness displayed by the orchestra members. Such qualities are increasingly rare among the younger generation and in many concert settings. Yet in this performance, we witnessed flawlessness in every aspect, from their playing technique and posture within the orchestra, to their focus and response to the conductor’s cues. We were genuinely delighted by this performance.”
Mr. Lamangna said Shen Yun was “outstanding.” She commended the live orchestra’s “highly expressive with a beautiful tone. [The orchestra] successfully captures the imagery conveyed by the dancers. In short, absolute harmony.”
“Congratulations on successfully conveying a sense of belonging and shared spiritual values to your audience, who are becoming increasingly engaged. This precious element is becoming increasingly difficult to experience, even in theaters,” Senator Rastrelli said.
“The courage, through dance and music to challenge communism, which denies all freedom and tradition, is something that must be appreciated, and Italy and Europe should be grateful to the Shen Yun company for that.”
