SAN LORENZO de EL ESCORIAL, Spain—On the evening of Feb. 26, the Teatro Auditorio San Lorenzo de El Escorial in San Lorenzo, Spain, was filled with warmth and sustained applause. Shen Yun’s second local performance of the 2026 season had long been sold out.
The New York–based Shen Yun Performing Arts is a leading classical Chinese dance and music company, with a mission to revive traditional Chinese culture. Since its founding in 2006, the company has presented an entirely new program each year, captivating audiences worldwide.

The performance in the Madrid area left many audience members deeply enchanted. Some said it felt as though they had transcended time, suddenly transported into another realm. Traveling across different eras felt like a spiritual journey, as if returning to one’s origins and rediscovering a simple, beautiful state that touched them profoundly.

“It is truly magnificent and grand—it surprised us all,” said Spanish Member of Parliament Alberto Fabra Part after attending the performance, noting the depth of traditional Chinese culture it conveyed. “I believe that understanding other ways of life through culture is essential. We Spaniards are fortunate to be able to witness such a spectacle.”

Mr. Fabra is a seasoned political figure. He has served multiple terms as mayor, previously served as President of the Valencian Regional Government, and chaired the Defense Committee of the Spanish Congress of Deputies.

Through artistry of the highest caliber, Shen Yun presents the essence of 5,000 years of Chinese civilization. Mr. Fabra praised the performers, saying, “First of all, all the artists and members of the orchestra demonstrated an extremely high level of professionalism. It was truly impressive.”

Shen Yun was founded in 2006 in New York by a group of leading classical Chinese artists, who enjoy artistic freedom and have the mission of “bringing to life a lost culture through beautiful art,” as explained on its website. This mission particularly resonated with Mr. Fabra.

“Shen Yun showed us the essence of Chinese culture passed down over hundreds and even thousands of years. I believe it deeply touched each and every one of us,” he said.

From the performance, Mr. Fabra said he could sense the profound foundation of the traditional culture it presented. “Indeed, in such a short time of viewing, we truly felt the determination embodied in traditional Chinese culture, as well as its profound values and principles—all of which were vividly manifested.”

He further reflected on the powerful energy and profound messages conveyed on stage, noting how deeply they touched him. “We experienced its strength, its energy, its capacity for reflection, and its purity. It was a truly wonderful and unforgettable performance,” he said.

In closing, Mr. Fabra said he would gladly recommend Shen Yun. “It is captivating, moving, and full of surprises. Visually, it is breathtakingly beautiful. It is absolutely not to be missed.”
