CLAREMONT, Calif.—Retired company vice president and college instructor Wesley Colvin thoroughly enjoyed his first experience with Shen Yun Performing Arts on March 9.

After attending the company’s evening show at the Bridges Auditorium, he said it was “a really fabulous production.”

“It was well worth the money and very entertaining. I would definitely come back again. I love it. It’s beautiful,” he exclaimed.

“I’m especially impressed by how synchronized all the dancers are. That must take a tremendous amount of practice. Also, the acrobatics are phenomenal.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun artists are highly trained in classical Chinese dance. Dating back thousands of years, it is one of the most athletic and expressive art forms in the world.
According to the company’s website, the classical Chinese dance we see in China today is heavily mixed with military and modern dance styles. Only at Shen Yun can you find it performed in its purest form—the way it was originally passed down through the generations.
The artists’ dream is to revive China’s 5,000 years of divine-inspired culture that was forced to the brink of extinction by decades of communist rule and the spread of atheism. Through dance and music, they are sharing with the world the beauty of China before communism.

Reflecting on the performers’ mission, Mr. Colvin said, “That’s one of the things that I find very appealing about Asian cultures—the way they see their position in life in terms of their ancient past and also their projections for the future. Their happiness is linked to the hopes and dreams of their children.”

Met with wide acclaim since its establishment in 2006, Shen Yun is slated to perform in over 200 cities this year. The company can be expected to return each year with a brand-new set of choreography and musical compositions.
Furthermore, Mr. Colvin said he’s excited to have learned something new at Shen Yun and is very impressed by the company’s organization.

“The production quality was top-notch. I can tell that the concept overall has really been refined and it looks like there’s not only a great cast, great choreography, and music—a lot of thought has been put into the entire production,” Mr. Colvin expressed.

“I can tell there’s a lot of people involved, and there’s all the logistics. It’s just a huge production and so well done—it’s very uplifting and just impressive. Very impressive. Congratulations on a fabulous production.”
