Shen Yun Enchants Vancouver Audience With Opening Performance

VANCOUVER, Canada—With captivating classical Chinese dance and music performances and colorful scenes on the stage, Shen Yun Performing Arts enchanted a Vancouver audience with splendor on its opening night on Canada’s West Coast.
“It’s been overwhelming, very enlightening about [Chinese] history and culture, and I’m very impressed,” said professional accountant Ron Seymour on March 22. “The dancing is amazing—such skilled artists.”
Based in New York, Shen Yun was founded in 2006 with the aim of presenting the traditional culture of China the way it was before decades of communist rule all but destroyed it.
Shen Yun’s performers depict stories from ancient China all the way to the present, showcasing dance and music that embody the universal values and exalted virtues that are hallmarks of Chinese civilization.

Reflecting on the themes he saw in the performance, Mr. Seymour said that “I detected a bit of a common theme about our origin and where we’re headed in this world.”
“That was a strong message for us,” he added.
‘Very Insightful’
Manny Sahota, a police officer, was similarly impressed by Shen Yun’s portrayal of Chinese culture.
“It’s very amazing—just the whole aspect of how they display their culture and the story behind, how it all started and how it’s going now,” he said. “It’s very informative through storytelling. I’m learning a lot today about Chinese culture.”
Sifti Bhullar, a veterinarian, said she found Shen Yun’s costumes to be very unique and the performance very informative.
“We had no idea about the different effects of communism on the culture,” she said. “It was very insightful.”

Ms. Bhullar, a dancer herself, said she learned a lot by watching Shen Yun’s dancers.
“It’s just very amazing, eye-opening, for another dancer,” she said.
Mr. Sahota said Shen Yun is a beautiful performance that everyone should see.
“Everyone should come down and watch this show. It’s amazing,” he said.
‘Dazzling’

Andy Baines, who works in the real estate sector, said that Shen Yun is wonderful and “dazzling.”
“It is extremely well-curated, and a very talented performance. The orchestra is very on point,” he said. “We’re enjoying it all.”
Michele Tamplin, a physiotherapist, said she enjoyed seeing “the beauty of the Chinese culture” through Shen Yun.
“It’s beautiful and I love it,” she said. “I love the fluid movement, the colorful outfits, and the message. I’m learning a lot about the Chinese culture, It’s lovely.”
