LOGROÑO, Spain— “Impressive! Honestly, the work that goes into all of this and the staging is impressive. Visually, it’s absolutely amazing! It’s incredible to see everything they’re capable of doing. Really, I’m left without words.” With these words, sculptor Ignacio Jefferson Casal Boo expressed his admiration after watching Shen Yun.
Mr. Casal Boo is a Spanish sculptor specializing in installations for museums and official institutions. Through refined woodcarving and polychrome techniques, he carries forward the aesthetics of Spain’s traditional Baroque religious sculpture. On the evening of March 14, he attended Shen Yun’s third performance of the season in Logroño, Spain, at the RiojaForum Theatre.
Endowed with 5,000 years of civilization, China was once known as the “Land of the Divine.” For millennia, its people believed that by keeping their hearts pure and upholding high moral standards, they would receive blessings from the heavens.
“I was really impressed by the message of kindness they convey,” Mr. Casal Boo said. “What struck me most is that everything is based on trying to do good, treating people well, and above all, being very humble. For that reason, I really liked the way the performance was presented.”
“The use of color really caught my attention, and I really liked the whole concept of color. I usually tend to be more restrained in that regard, but I really liked this approach.”
“They bring a lot of joy. It’s something that brings joy and peace, and I really liked all of that.”
Mr. Casal Boo traveled about 200 kilometers (about 124 miles) from Santander to see Shen Yun and said he would gladly recommend the performance to others.
“I think anyone can come—it’s for everyone, and everyone is going to like it. We traveled 200 kilometers to see it; we came all the way from Santander today just to watch it, and I think it’s worth it for anyone. I would definitely recommend coming.”
He added that the performance offers audiences both enjoyment and an opportunity to learn about another culture.
“I’d say that anyone of any age and any mindset can enjoy something very entertaining and learn about another culture. For people from the West or anywhere else, it’s really beautiful to see. It also covers a wide range of history, so it’s a way to learn about their religion, their culture, and how it has evolved. I think everyone should come and see it.”
