NEWARK, N.J.—5,000 years of Chinese civilization are filled with triumphs, humor, and tragedy, and that’s exactly what Andrey Narango and Jenny Ocampo saw in Shen Yun Performing Arts.

“I thought it was wonderful. It was super beautiful. The colors, the story, the humor, the love, the appreciation, the admiration in regards to how it was all put together. You can tell that through the storyline and how the characters intermix with each other. That’s what I was able to get out of that,” said Mr. Naranjo, a marketer.

Shen Yun is based in New York, and its artists are trained in classical Chinese dance, one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world.
“I thought it was very acrobatic, very precise, and everything was coordinated very well. It was good,” Mr. Narango said.
In Shen Yun’s performance, audience members enjoy classical Chinese dance pieces as well as dance stories and ethnic and folk dances.

“I thought it was beautiful. I thought it was incredibly well done. The precision, it was perfect. ... Some of them were funny and some of them were romantic and I love that. I even cried,” shared Ms. Ocampo, a nurse.

In many Shen Yun pieces, the power of the divine is featured. Mr. Narango found connections between his faith and what was portrayed on stage.

“I thought it was interesting because some of it resembles my faith, which is in Jesus Christ. I was able to relate to some of the spirituality part of it. ... I felt like it was speaking to me that way,” he shared.

Mr. Andrey believes that everyone should witness the talent of Shen Yun’s artists.
“I think it’s a show that everybody should see because these people are very talented, and also the music is very talented, and the way it comes together. It’s very artistic, very precise,” he said.
