FRANKFURT, Germany—Shen Yun Performing Arts performed to a sold-out audience in Frankfurt on the evening of May 2, presenting classical Chinese dance and music inspired by the 5,000 years of “China before communism.”
Audience members praised the artistry, visual effects, and emotional impact of the performance.
“It started touching my heart right from the beginning,” Katja Momberg, a publisher and journalist, said.
Mrs. Momberg said she especially enjoyed the women’s dance performances. “They were very, very synchronized, and showed a lot of power,” she said. “They had magnificent colors and beautiful costumes.”
Bernd Momberg, owner of a media company, said the performance was fully immersive.
“It was important to me to just let myself be swept away, and that’s exactly what happened from start to finish,” he said.
Daniela Trieloff, a dance instructor attending her fourth Shen Yun performance, praised the production’s digital backdrop and visual effects.
“This is my fourth time seeing Shen Yun,” she said. “I thought it was very good. I also really liked the effects with the screen in the background. Very beautiful.”
Shen Yun’s mission is to revive traditional Chinese culture through classical Chinese dance and music. Audience members said the themes and values presented in the performance were universal to humanity and resonated deeply with them.
“[These traditional values] are very important,” Mrs. Momberg said. “They must be passed on, they must be proclaimed loudly to the world.”
She added that younger generations especially should understand the importance of values and traditions. “After all, it’s through traditions that values are established,” she said.
“The message is actually the most important thing,” Ms. Trieloff said. “Love for others ... love and compassion are what is being shown, and these are especially important in today’s world.”
As the New York-based company celebrates its 20th anniversary, audience members said its performances continue to inspire people around the world.
“They will definitely bring joy and lightness to the world,” Mrs. Momberg said. “And when so many groups are on tour at the same time, celebrating an anniversary, it can only bring joy.”
The company presents a new production every year, with its eight companies simultaneously touring the world.
Ms. Trieloff, who comes from a competitive dance background, also praised the athleticism and artistic discipline of the performers.
“I have to say, it is a high-performance sport,” she said. “And the message that the group conveys is simply unique. The way everything is presented so beautifully, I really appreciate that.”
Mrs. Momberg encouraged others to see the performance wherever they have the opportunity.
“That is a great inspiration and motivation,” she said. “Go see it, watch the performance, whether in New York, in Canada, or wherever you are in the world. You should definitely take the time and let yourself be immersed in it.”
