MEXICO CITY, Mexico—Mexican Senator Juanita Guerra Mena presented a formal recognition to New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts at their performance in Mexico City on May 3, and said their stories, conveyed through classical Chinese dance and music, had deeply inspired her.
Ms. Guerra represents the state of Morelos in the Mexican Senate, where she serves as president of the National Guard Commission and the National Defense Commission, and also participates in the Artificial Intelligence and Constitutional Affairs commissions. During Shen Yun’s visit to Mexico, she presented the company with a recognition honoring the artists for their extraordinary performance and contributions to culture and the arts.
“As a Federal Senator, I am pleased and deeply honored to welcome you to Mexico on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Shen Yun Artistic Company, bringing to our country the essence of Chinese culture and classical dance,” the recognition stated.
“Truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance,” as well as loyalty, filial piety, freedom, respect for heaven and the divine, and the principle that good and evil are met with corresponding consequences, “resonate with global audiences regardless of age, race, belief, or nationality,” the statement read.
The recognition further congratulated the company for “persevering year after year in enriching the artistic and musical life of our city and country, as well as the lives of all our citizens,” and expressed gratitude to the artists “for bringing hope to millions of people around the world during this 2026 tour.”
After watching Shen Yun, Ms. Guerra particularly praised the dancers, saying they demonstrate “with love what they reflect on stage.” She encouraged them to continue sharing their art with the same “heart given to them by that divine being, that supreme being.”
“I hope all human beings give themselves the opportunity to transmit emotion through art,” she said, “so that we may all have harmony, peace, sensitivity, and above all, treat one another with respect and love.”
“Each act of kindness, each story told in such a magnificent cultural way—with music, art, dance, and divinity—shows us that human beings can connect with something supreme that can open our hearts,” she said. “What is most beautiful is the kindness we show to others and the kindness others show to us.”
She also said the performance guided audiences through more than 5,000 years of Chinese civilization “in a chronological way,” from ancient times to present-day China.
She said that by the end of the performance, audience members would likely leave “very happy, with a spirit of service, a spirit of moving forward, realizing that things can always be achieved as long as you know what you want to do and, above all, act with kindness toward others.”
“In all the countries you visit, and among all the cultures you encounter, there is one thing that unites us: love for our fellow human beings and kindness toward one another,” she said. “Even after thousands of years, even with ancient cultures and difficult times in some places, harmony, peace, kindness, and above all love for the divine and for the supreme being must always prevail.”
Ms. Guerra also said Shen Yun left her with “personal growth.”
“The feelings that blossom in this performance of art and ancient culture allow us to experience many emotions,” she said, “but above all, they transmit those feelings into our real lives.”
She described experiencing happiness, harmony, kindness, and even sadness during the performance, adding that it prompted her to reflect on the importance of maintaining a compassionate heart toward others.
The senator said she respects all cultures and believes that “we are all connected to a supreme being and to love among one another.”
Shen Yun’s 2026 tour of Mexico is nearing its conclusion, with Guadalajara set to be the final city to host the company this season from May 6–10.
