PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil—On the afternoon of May 9, João Alberto da Silva Neto and his wife, Ana Lúcia Chagas Silva, attended Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Teatro FIERGS in Porto Alegre. A sold-out performance, the theater was filled to capacity, with an atmosphere of joy and sustained applause throughout the two-hour event.
Deeply moved by the experience, Mrs. Silva said the performance conveyed “a tremendous amount of energy” and made the audience feel “integrated with the divine.”
Mr. Silva Neto is a veteran Brazilian business executive with experience in accounting, auditing, and corporate management, serving as a company founder and board member. Mrs. Silva is a nurse.
Reflecting on the performance, Mr. Silva Neto said Shen Yun left the couple deeply impressed. “We liked the show very much,” he said. “It surprised us in a very positive way.”
Mrs. Silva said she strongly felt a spiritual energy throughout the performance and was especially moved by the scenes portraying the divine.
“I think especially the final scene, where the divine appears, transmitted a tremendous amount of energy,” she said. “The brightness—that yellow color—brought a light that made us feel integrated with the divine. It was fantastic.”
She described the experience as deeply personal and spiritual.
“It is a higher energy,” Mrs. Silva said. “I think it is something very individual and very unique. Some people connect with this energy and others do not. You have to be open to this connection with the light, with the divine—which, in fact, is in everything and everyone.”
Not only did she feel the energy, but she also saw various colors associated with that energy.
“Blue, white, and especially yellow transmit this energy,” she said. “For me, yellow is the light of the sun.”
The name Shen Yun means “the beauty of divine beings dancing.” Mrs. Silva said she could clearly perceive that divine presence on stage.
“Completely,” she said. “I saw it in the movements, in the integration of the dancers, and in the integration of the music with the dance and the story being told. The divine is there.”
She added, “If they did not believe in this divine, they would not be able to transmit this to us.”
Mr. Silva Neto noted with a smile, “She speaks for both of us.”
“I liked the costumes very much,” she said. “I want to praise the costume designer for the colors, the fabrics, and the flow of the costumes. They were very beautiful.”
“Everything impressed me,” he said. “The colors and the interaction with the screen—where they entered and exited the screen—was very cool. In fact, that was the biggest surprise.”
At the conclusion of the interview, the couple expressed heartfelt appreciation for Shen Yun’s artists.
“I want to congratulate them on the excellent performance and on the connection they managed to create with the audience,” Mr. Silva Neto said. “I think that was very important.”
“May the divine light of a greater being—the Creator that each person believes in—continue accompanying them throughout their lives.”
