BURGOS, Spain—“It was impressive—I didn’t expect everything behind this whole show,” said Dr. Matías Díaz after attending Shen Yun. He described the performance as deeply moving and called it “a hymn, so to speak, to the divine.”

On March 19, 2026, Dr. Díaz and his family attended Shen Yun’s third performance of the season in Fórum Evolución Theater in Burgos, Spain, bringing their son along for the experience. Dr. Díaz works as a hematologist, treating patients with cancer and blood disorders.

Shen Yun’s presentation of 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture left a strong impression on Dr. Díaz. “For me, the Chinese world is completely unknown,” he said. “The presentation the two hosts have been giving introduces you to Chinese culture, and you truly realize that it’s a culture—well, as they said—5,000 years old, and absolutely unknown to me. Through the show, the color, the harmony, the dance, it introduces you to a world without words.”

Ms. Álamo also shared her appreciation for the performance. “It was impressive, very beautiful,” she said. “All the colors, the lighting… the feeling it conveys—very beautiful.”

The New York–based Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, with a mission to revive 5,000 years of China’s divinely inspired heritage and share with audiences the beauty of China before communism.
Echoing this mission, Dr. Díaz felt the performance conveyed profound themes. “The stories are truly cosmogonic; they’re about universal truth, creation, the divine being that protects us—meaning there’s a philosophy behind it, an impressive culture. I’ve really been impressed!”
Reflecting on the singer’s performance, Dr. Díaz emphasized the depth of its message. “It’s a very profound message,” he said. “It connects with the human longing for something transcendent that we need so much … I think we’re losing our sense of transcendence.”
He believes the values presented in the performance are highly relevant today. “Absolutely,” he said. “We live in a Western world, in a very fast-paced, consumerist culture, and we don’t stop to think. I believe that Chinese music—its harmony and sweetness—helps you pause for a moment and think about things you don’t usually think about.”
Summing up his experience, Dr. Díaz said the performance resonated with him on a deeper level. “It’s a hymn, so to speak, to the divine, which influences us, which is there within us, and which we sometimes fail to recognize.”

Drawing from his professional experience, he reflected on the theme of suffering. “I’m a doctor; I face pain every day … sometimes there is no cure, and the only thing you can do is offer comfort,” he said. “Sometimes you realize that we shy away from the reality of pain.”

He further shared his personal outlook on life and spirituality. “We are transcendent beings, and the end of life is the beginning,” he said. “We are losing sight of this … we must not be afraid of life or afraid of death.”
