COPENHAGEN, Denmark—On the afternoon of April 2, Shen Yun Performing Arts presented its fifth show in Copenhagen of the 2026 season at the Royal Arena.

Michael Gjereo, who traveled with a group of friends from Holbæk to see Shen Yun, was deeply moved by the performance. He felt that Shen Yun not only showcased exceptional artistry but also highlighted the crisis modern society faces when it loses its spiritual core.

Mr. Gjereo, a clinical psychologist with a private practice in Holbæk, said: “This performance was brilliant—truly incredible! It was very moving; it really touched the heart. The grace in the movements made everything so elegant. The colors, the technical mastery, and the scenery in the animated backdrops of mountains and landscapes all came together in a kind of sacred harmony.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, on a mission to revive 5,000 years of China’s divinely inspired heritage and share with audiences the beauty of “China before communism.”

The lyrics of Shen Yun’s songs, which reference the harmful effects of atheism and the theory of evolution on humanity, resonated strongly with Mr. Gjereo. He explained: “It was fantastic. The song explained that atheism and the theory of evolution have taken the spirit out of human beings—that really resonated with me. We need to preserve the spirit; it is part of our nature.”

He further emphasized, “If we fail to elevate ourselves to a human and spiritual level, we deprive ourselves of our spiritual nature. If we focus only on materialism, evolution, and atheism, I think it removes something essential from being human. That’s what I appreciated about his song—it was beautifully sung.”

He tearfully shared: “The baritone singer performed beautifully, and the small Chinese instrument with two strings really touched my heart.”

He also praised the emcees for their clear and engaging explanations, which allowed him to accurately understand the stage’s messages. He noted that this context was especially helpful for a Western audience.
Mr. Gjereo, who is a long-time practitioner of Tai Chi and qigong, deeply appreciated Shen Yun’s efforts to present traditional culture and values. He particularly affirmed the power of compassion: “I have deep faith in goodness. However, there are certain people who oppress us, drain our energy, take the joy out of life, and argue about everything. That’s not what we need. Tolerance is good, but only up to a point.”
As Shen Yun marks its 20th anniversary, Mr. Gjereo expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Shen Yun artists. “Thank you so much for the tremendous effort you have put in! Thank you for sacrificing so much time, energy, and love for humanity so that we can share in this beauty together.”
