BUENOS AIRES, Argentina—On April 9, Shen Yun International Company presented its opening performance at the Teatro Ópera in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The evening drew prominent figures and community leaders eager to experience the renowned production.

Buenos Aires Provincial Representative Juan José Esper attended the performance and expressed admiration for both its artistic excellence and spiritual depth. “I thought it was wonderful. Chinese culture is ancient—it’s marvelous, it’s perfection, it’s balance,” he said. “I’m very happy to have had such a beautiful experience.”

As Shen Yun celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, Mr. Esper offered his respect to the company’s artistic director and his appreciation to its artists. “I think you’re making a tremendous effort to bring this culture and philosophy to every corner of the world. I thank you for choosing Argentina as well,” he said.

He added that the impact of such work is both rare and meaningful. “There are few people who have the opportunity, through their daily work, to leave a lasting impact on others. That must be very rewarding,” he said. “I understand the effort required to carry out this project, but it is very important for every single person who has the chance to experience this.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, with a mission to revive 5,000 years of China’s divinely-inspired heritage and share with audiences the beauty of “China before communism.”
Mr. Esper said the element that moved him most was the richness of traditional Chinese culture. “What I liked most was seeing that such a rich culture exists on the other side of the world, with its music, spirituality, dance, and art,” he said.

The name Shen Yun means “the beauty of divine beings dancing.” For thousands of years, Chinese culture was deeply spiritual in nature. That changed only in recent decades with the rise of the Chinese Communist Party and its promotion of atheism.

Mr. Esper said the spiritual dimension of the performance deeply resonated with him. “I find daily life in connection with spirituality to be truly wonderful,” he said. “It is something we in the West have gradually lost over the years. In the East, especially in certain places, the spiritual and the earthly coexist constantly.”

He continued, “I believe this is something we once had and should seek to emulate, because it is the only way to live together in a healthy society and to be spiritually in harmony with ourselves and our faith.”

Mr. Esper emphasized that Shen Yun carries a deeper significance beyond performance. “This is not merely a work of art or a form of physical expression—it has a very profound meaning,” he said.

He underscored the relevance of this message in today’s world. “The advancement of technology, modernity, and now artificial intelligence are putting our entire value system into crisis—the very system that connects us as human beings,” he said.

“I believe that revaluing our connection with the spiritual realm is the only way to achieve peaceful coexistence, to find harmony in our relationships, and to recognize that others possess the same dignity as we do,” he added.

Mr. Esper said he would warmly recommend the performance to others. “I found it incredibly fantastic, and I hope many more people will have the opportunity to experience it,” he said. “Something stays with each of us—and that is incredible.”
