SAN DIEGO—“It’s absolutely magnificent,” said Sheree Meyerowitz, owner of La Petite Fille Dance Academy, after watching Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company Feb. 26 at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido.
Ms. Meyerowitz, who graduated from the London Royal Academy of Dance, was highly impressed with the production and especially the dancers, who, she felt, moved as one.
“They are beautifully, beautifully trained, the choreography is magnificent, the backgrounds are beautiful, and there is a lot of work involved in it—they are very, very talented. I can see that they are very, very well trained,” she said.
Shen Yun is a non-profit, New York-based classical Chinese music and dance company that creates an all-new production each year and travels the world on a mission to revive traditional Chinese culture.
In a variety of vignettes, China’s 5,000 years of culture, replete with ancient myths, legends, and modern stories of courage, is presented.
“Its stunning beauty and tremendous energy leave audiences uplifted and inspired,” according to the Shen Yun website.
Ms. Meyerowitz’s exhilaration was apparent. She said it was her first time attending Shen Yun.
“And I’ll be back,” she added.
Because of the nature of her work as a dance instructor and owner of a dance academy, Ms. Meyerowitz has a unique appreciation of the training involved to produce Shen Yun.
“It’s tremendous,” she said. “There’s a large number of dancers and they are absolutely very well trained. It takes a lot of training to produce a professional show like this.”
Many of the pieces include dozens of male and female dancers on stage at once.
Ms. Meyerowitz wanted to congratulate the performers.
“Thank you for entertaining us on such a wonderful level,” she said. “It’s a beautiful show, and I encourage everyone to come out and have a look and enjoy it.”
