DAEGU, South Korea—Renowned Korean tenor Hyun-jun Kim was deeply impressed by the artistic caliber he saw in Shen Yun Performing Arts, calling the orchestra “brilliant” and praising the “excellent” sound quality.
Mr. Kim spent over 20 years teaching at Keimyung University in Korea and now runs his own private vocal academy. He attended the performance on May 1 with his wife, accompanied by several close friends and relatives.
“The voice was powerful and clear, with great resonance and control—it could even spin while maintaining excellent tone quality. The final note was outstanding and truly magnificent,” he said. “The lyrics, about the Creator, were deeply meaningful.”
New York-based Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company, with a mission to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization.
Mr. Kim also praised the dances in the performance, saying, “The dancers’ movements were absolutely stunning, and the performances were outstanding. The coordination of the entire group was flawless. The ethnic dances, including those from the Tibetan and other ethnic cultures, were especially captivating. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the performance.”
“Another particularly unique aspect,” Mr. Kim remarked, “is how the dancers move as if acting, seamlessly blending into the background. It’s truly distinctive.” He was also amazed by Shen Yun’s use of high-tech stage backdrops, which allowed the performers to transition seamlessly between the stage and digital scenery. “This is something I’ve never seen before,” he said in awe.
Suseong District Council Chair: Shen Yun Inspires Endurance and Strength
Suseong District Council chairwoman Gye-hwa Cho, attending a Shen Yun performance for the first time on May 1, described the experience as feeling like celestial fairies descending from the heavens. “It was a mesmerizing and beautiful show that completely enchanted me,” she said.Ms. Cho expressed heartfelt gratitude for Shen Yun’s visit to her community, saying she was deeply thankful that the world-renowned company had come to Daegu—especially to the Suseong Arts Center, a key hub for cultural and artistic life.
She went on to explain, “Through today’s performance, I realized that human beings are capable of extraordinary abilities. I witnessed moments that felt almost beyond what we believe humans can do. In life, when we face difficulties, we truly need patience, perseverance, and endurance—and these qualities were clearly reflected in the performers’ presentation.”
Ms. Cho reflected on the dedication of the young artists, both on and off stage. “Each performance clearly takes immense dedication and effort,” she said. “It reminded me how vital perseverance and endurance are in our own lives. I was truly moved by their hard work—and I deeply admire them.”
She sensed renewed spirit, body, and mind. “From now on, I believe that even in difficult times, as long as we persevere, keep learning, and endure, the outcome will be something truly rewarding,” she said. She left the theater with a sense of anticipation, hoping to one day see the remarkable performance again.
Ms. Cho wrapped up with a strong recommendation: “One thing’s for sure—you absolutely have to see it. Only by experiencing it yourself can you truly understand it—just hearing about it doesn’t do it justice.”
Speaking to residents of Daegu, she added, “Today’s performance reminded me that when we face challenges, we should remember the immense effort behind every flawless moment on stage. Patience, I believe, is one of life’s most important lessons. If we can endure and persevere through hardship, we can unlock extraordinary strength.”
