PHILADELPHIA—Belinda Mills saw Shen Yun Performing Arts for the second time and said it filled her with joy. Ms. Mills is the chief of staff of Pennsylvania State Representative Regina Young, who honored the performing arts company with a proclamation ahead of its Philadelphia run. On May 9, Ms. Mills presented the artists with a copy of the proclamation at the Miller Theatre.
“After seeing the show, I feel refreshed, I feel overjoyed, I feel excited—I’m just alive,” Ms. Mills said with a laugh. “The show was just good; really, really good.”
Ms. Mills said she could see through the performance how important dance was to traditional Chinese culture. The program included classical Chinese dances set in various dynasties, as well as ethnic and folk dances from some of China’s 50-some ethnic minority groups, which Ms. Mills said she could see were dances of gratitude, caring, hospitality, and other positive traditions.
Ms. Mills said that for her, Shen Yun was a message of “love, peace,” which came through especially in scenes where the performance depicted the Creator, which Ms. Mills said was a symbol of love and peace.
