BURGOS, Spain—The audience that attended Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Fórum Evolución on March 19 was enchanted and intrigued.

Javier Martínez Lozano, former president of Vox Burgos and candidate for the court of Spain’s autonomous region of Castile and León, said, “It’s a very humorous and interesting way of telling a story. Shen Yun does this in an educational and breezy way. It sends a very important message to Europe and the rest of the world. In China, it usually doesn’t arrive.

Shen Yun is banned in China. The performing arts company shares traditional Chinese culture to revive traditions that are universal to all cultures.

Mr. Martinez said, “I believe that one must never lose traditions. One must not let oneself be carried away by the actions of globalist people who only want to destroy the culture of each country.

“[This is not happening] only in China. We are seeing how right here in Spain, and in Castile and León, we are losing our traditions. We are losing our customs  in exchange for importing foreign customs for self-interest.”

Mr. Martínez emphasized the importance of cultural traditions. “In the end, it is history and, like it or not, it is our cradle, it is our legacy. I want to leave a better world for my children. Just as my parents taught me  where we come from, I have to instill in my children where they come from, and where we do not want to end up.”

The traditional culture that Shen Yun displays is banned in China. “Yes, Mr. Martínez said, “I have heard that in China it is forbidden. Even this show. “ He noted how the modern world sends a message that mocks traditions.

When asked what Spaniards can take away from Shen Yun, Mr. Martínez said, “I’m left with the message of how communism is oppressing the Chinese people, and how it is not letting them express themselves, even simply through dance performances.
He noted that he was being introduced to classical Chinese dance and found it to be something spectacular. “It’s a way of selling our culture—selling your culture— and showing the world that all of this is real, and because it has a history behind it. It is history that it is selling,” he said.
To everyone involved with Shen Yun, Mr. Martínez said, “I can’t say more to the artists than that they are brave, that they should not falter in their efforts, and that they are doing a work that is commendable by showing the world the reality of traditional Chinese culture.”

Mr. Martínez said he would enthusiastically recommend Shen Yun. Classical Chinese dance “is a magnificent spectacle.”

When people come, he said, they would receive the message that these artists are sending in the best way. “They are opening large-capacity theaters to send their message. From here, I send all my gratitude to them as well.”
