PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Scott Brandon, an educational specialist, discovered a production unlike any other in Shen Yun Performing Arts.

“Absolutely beautiful. The synchronicity of the dancers—absolutely amazing. The colors—beautiful. Absolutely beautiful,” Mr. Brandon said after seeing the performance at the Providence Performing Arts Center on May 10. “It’s absolutely the most amazing dancing I’ve seen. The storytelling is great. [The emcees] that tell you what’s going on, perfect.”
Formed in 2006 in New York, Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance company and has a mission to revive 5,000 years of Chinese civilization through the arts.

This ancient culture that existed before communism seized power in 1949 was considered divinely inspired, as the ancient Chinese believed their culture was a gift from the divine.

Mr. Brandon said the spirituality present throughout the culture and performance was beautiful.

“It’s very uplifting,” he added. “It’s a very positive message of tradition, story, and there are some things that don’t need to change. This is one of those traditions that doesn’t need to change.”

“The message is China needs to change. It needs to come back to what it was. The communist regime is not good for the country. It truly is not,” he said.

He said he thought Shen Yun was “a beautiful representation of what China could be. It really could be, once again.”
