SPARTANBURG, S.C.—South Carolinians are likely familiar with Michael Cogdill, who is a news anchor in Greenville. On May 7, he and his wife, Danette Cogdill, came to see Shen Yun Performing Arts.
“You can’t watch this and not be happy. There is such happiness. Even though there is repression from communist China, there is an evolution through it. Humanity evolves beyond such dreadfulness. It’s just happiness throughout. The art of happy,” Mr. Cogdill said.“Steep in the artistry of old China and new. Steep in the elegance of it. The irrepressible elegance,” Mr. Cogdill expressed.
Shen Yun’s artists are trained in classical Chinese dance, one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world.
Although Shen Yun is sharing the beauty of Chinese culture with the world, Shen Yun is unable to perform in China.
“I believe that there’s hope and love and passion that’s waiting to come out, that has been suppressed for so many years, and now they’re being free to express how they feel. And it’s such beauty. We’ve just loved it so, so much,” Mrs. Cogdill said.
She added that seeing Shen Yun reminded her that we were made for kindness. “We need to spread joy and love in the world. And it makes us feel happy to see this.”
“This is America. This is how we do it. And the artistry and civilization of China will never be repressed by communism. It always shines through. And eventually it will topple communism. It will happen. We believe that in this country with all our hearts,” Mr. Cogdill said.
Shen Yun’s use of its digital backdrop is patented. The versatility of technology allows the set to change scenes in the blink of an eye, giving the stage endless possibilities.
