SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.—Jim Ripley, vice president of finance for CPC International, left the opening night performance of Shen Yun in San Francisco with a feeling of serenity.
“It’s very peaceful and leaves you with a good feeling as you walk out of the program.” Mr. Ripley said.
A large part of the magic of the show and what helped create this sense of tranquility was Shen Yun’s majestic symphony orchestra. The orchestral music weaves together seamlessly all the different elements of the show, creating a harmonious balance of music and dance.
“The orchestra is excellent, very professional,” said Mr. Ripley.
Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra also tours the country every year by itself, giving audiences a musical experience unlike any other.
Mr. Ripley was also very impressed by Shen Yun’s animated projected digital backdrop. “Oh, that really makes the program,” he said.
Shen Yun’s digital backdrops bring history to life. According to the company’s website, “The backdrops are magical windows to completely different realms. Inspired by 5,000 years of history, these spectacular landscapes truly reflect China’s multifaceted geography, society, regions, and dynasties.”
Shen Yun’s mission is to revive 5,000 years of ancient Chinese culture, which has been nearly lost under communist rule.
“I think that’s good,” Mr. Ripley said. “Something we in America don’t know a lot about. It’s different than what I had expected.”
