WASHINGTON—Washington’s snow blizzard didn’t keep Charles Taku from watching Shen Yun Performing Arts’ opening show at the Kennedy Center Opera House Jan. 21.

Mr. Taku is an international lawyer, lead council at the international court of De Haag, owner of the Taku Chamber law firm in Cameroon, and a well-known participant in international tribunals.

He said that he will tell his fellow international lawyers and his fellow Africans about Shen Yun.

Besides, he travels throughout the world, and therefore he said, “I will be an ambassador for this traditional Chinese show wherever I go.”

Mr. Taku is not a newcomer to the history of China, be it ancient or modern. He bemoaned that due to the Cultural Revolution, China lost its past. “We never hear about the great traditions of China again,” he said.

The Shen Yun website addresses this issue: “After more than 60 years of Communist rule in China, and especially after the Cultural Revolution, Chinese traditional culture has been all but completely demolished. However, the deeper spiritual core of the ancient culture, with its values of benevolence, honor, propriety, wisdom, and sincerity, as well as a reverence for the gods and the heavens, cannot be destroyed.”

Mr. Taku was very pleased that Shen Yun Performing Arts brings back the lost Chinese culture and said, “This is a great renewal.” Through the universal languages of music and dance, the New York-based Shen Yun brings 5,000 years of Chinese civilization to life.

“This show is a great event. It brings China to a rightful place in the world, culturally, and also from the perspective of civilization.”

Lastly, he was impressed with the animated backdrops that highlight the dancers and soloists on stage. Mr. Taku found it to be “marvelous.”

According to Shen Yun’s website: “With state-of-the-art graphics technology, Shen Yun’s digital-backdrop team creates vividly animated settings, extending the stage and transporting the audience to a world where heaven and earth are one.”

“I’m simply happy to be here today,” he said.
