FORT WORTH, Tx.—Hugh Adams and Jan Darnell attended Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, Jan. 6.

“Absolutely fabulous. The costumes, the dance, the history, and the culture—all of it—fabulous!” said Mr. Adams, who owns a small company called HRA Enterprises.

Mr. Adams added that he was especially touched by the solo erhu performance. “It was fabulous! We enjoyed it very much,” he said.

The erhu is a traditional Chinese instrument, and it is also included in the Shen Yun Orchestra, which blends Eastern and Western instruments to create a refreshing new sound. Known as the Chinese violin, the erhu has a history of 4,000 years.

Shen Yun is reviving China’s divinely inspired culture through the wonders of music and dance. “Its stunning beauty and tremendous energy leave audiences uplifted and inspired,” reads Shen Yun’s website.

That energy was not lost upon Ms. Darnell, a interior designer. “I thought it was very beautiful! Outstanding! So much talent. I mean I’ve never seen anything like that. I thought it was excellent,” she said.

Mr. Adams was especially touched by Shen Yun’s portrayal of the universal values existing among all people across the globe. “Integrity and all of the things that go with what our culture stands for now,” he said. “If we could just get a little bit of the 5,000 years back here in the United States—what a glorious side!”

“The faith, the loyalty, the respect,” Ms. Darnell added. “It was just about the values that you want to have forever. That’s what spoke to me the most.”

According to Shen Yun’s website, “Shen Yun cannot be seen in China today, where traditional culture has been nearly lost. Yet Shen Yun—a nonprofit organization—has become an international phenomenon, bringing the wonders of ancient Chinese culture to millions across the globe.”

Mr. Adams wished to pass on his thanks to the performers for “entertaining us, and a wonderful evening, and for opening my eyes to a culture that we don’t see—and to what we don’t really know.”

“Thank you for enlightening me,” he added.

“It’s given us an education,” said Ms. Darnell. “The dedication and so much hard work that you put into it. It was fun.”
